The Principle of Adding Healthy Habits for Weight Loss

Reading Time: 2 minutes

You’ve probably heard it so many times you can recite it in your sleep. The only way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. Calories in. Calories out.

You know all about your bad habits – your reliance on processed foods and diet soda, your tendency to skip the gym, your deep, deep affection for pizza and fries, your 4 cups of coffee a day, your lack of adequate sleep, your through-the-roof stress level. What if dropping all of those habits and circumstances overnight is just not gonna happen? Are you doomed to never being able to release your excess weight?

There’s actually a saner, more sustainable way to work with your body to achieve your personal weight loss goals. It’s taught by weight loss coaches such as Jon Gabriel and Nealon Hightower.

It’s called the Addition Principle and it’s very easy to understand. You’re not likely to be able to drop all your bad habits and become a healthy food expert overnight. That just isn’t realistic. But there is something you can do. Something very doable that will pay off big over time.

Add something. Add one small thing. Drink two cups of water first thing in the morning to better hydrate yourself. Add one serving of fruit a day. Cut up your pizza and add it to a bed of salad. Drink a cup of water before each meal. That’s the Addition Principle. Don’t beat yourself up over what you’re not yet doing to support your healthy weight loss goals. Let your new, healthy habit gradually sink in. Then, when it’s locked in place, add another small change. Don’t even think about the things you’re not yet doing. Just build momentum. Slowly, without fighting your body.

The Addition Principle is a fantastic way to get your body ready to be successful with a gastric balloon. Think of it as your warm-up. Add one healthy habit at a time, so that your body will already be functioning more properly before your gastric balloon insertion. This principle will go a long way toward ensuring your ultimate success!
